I adopted Dipper on March 23, 2015, and we’re celebrating our very first Adoptiversary! I loved him from the start, but in a year’s time, I’ve discovered many more things to adore.
“Dipper, say hi!” I said, almost pleading, as my dog walked away from his first meeting with our new neighbor, uninterested. He seemed excited enough at first, running up to greet her with a sniff.
Before adopting Dipper, you couldn’t pay me to talk to a stranger. While my dog hasn’t cured my social anxiety, he’s definitely given me something to talk about.
After dreaming about adopting a dog for so long, the only disappointment I’d anticipated was the possibly of not finding a dog at all. I had in fact found one, but adopting a victim of animal abuse wasn’t nearly as romantic or immediately fulfilling as I’d been led to believe.
I adopted Dipper in March 2015. He was found on the streets of Philadelphia one month earlier as a stray during some of that winter’s most brutal weeks. For him, it was a long journey to a new home.
