Meet Oliver the Love Pug. You may recognize him – his hit Vine only has over 17 million views. It’s been snatched up by outlets like Good Morning America, Buzzfeed, and the Huffington Post, and Oliver currently has over 9,000 followers on Instagram. There’s also the distinct possibility that you’ve seen him around town – Oliver is from our very own Philadelphia.
We chatted with Oliver to get to know some more about Philly’s finest pug. Read our exclusive interview below.
Tell us a little about yourself.
O: Hey, ‘sup! I’m a six year old pug, born in Louisiana. I spent some time in Texas before moving to Philadelphia before my first birthday. I really like city life. Constantly meeting new ladies, taking in the smell of fried meat. We have it all here in Philly!
Describe a typical day in the life of Oliver.
O: A typical day for me would be rolling out of bed around noon and having a bowl of dog cereal [editor’s note: he means kibble]. I check my email and see if any cute girls have posted selfies on Instagram. I scope my wardrobe for the dopest threads and prepare for the big day’s big photoshoot. After some shots, I’m usually ready for a snack, so I head over to Amelie’s Bark Shop and grab a cupcake or something cool to chew – can’t have sweets everyday, you know, always watching my figure! Sometimes I’ll meet up with my cool dog squad and hang, go to an exclusive pugs-only event, or maybe just go home and nap ‘til dinner.
So how do you watch your figure? Do you do CrossFit?
O: I’m really passionate about cardio. I walk a few miles every day. While I enjoy a good pizza and some ice cream on my cheat days, I stick to a semi-strict pescetarian diet. Fish keeps my coat nice and soft for the ladies, and I limit red meat because it goes straight to my waist. I do embrace a little chicken or duck for special occasions.
What’s your favorite thing about living in Philly?
O: The food! I love Philly’s cheese worship. My South Philly neighborhood is really into food, especially pizza. I also really love that it’s a big city with small town vibes. Whenever I walk around, people stop and introduce themselves or say they know me. Feels pretty cool to be recognized.
What are your of your favorite dog-friendly places in the city?
O: Like any dog, I love a good park. There’s always something happening at Rittenhouse Square, and Spruce Street Harbor is a lively place with chill vibes. Indoors and late night, I hang at the Bottle Shop in East Passyunk with my humans and listen to them get loud after a few drinks. I also really like shopping. Most of the stores along Passyunk let me come in for kisses. I especially love Occasionette – I got a lot of my birthday party swag there.
Describe your ideal date.
O: My ideal date! I feel like I talk about food all the time, is that weird? Is it okay to want to eat with a date? Well, I love a girl that likes to eat, especially ice cream. The ideal: I bring a girl to Spruce Street Harbor and share some Franklin Fountain ice cream—my favorite—while we laugh at the humans pedaling around swan boats. Then maybe after, we could walk around Old City and window shop in all the art galleries. Once we get a little sleepy, and if we are having a good time, I would love to end the night with some Netflix and snuggling.
How do you handle the stresses of being an Instagram star?
O: Dressing up and putting in the effort to have unique selfies everyday can be taxing, but I have so much fun doing it! I love dressing nicely and posing for people. It’s rewarding to see how happy my pictures make them. I get a lot of compliments on my fashion choices.
Speaking of clothes, how would you describe your personal style?
O: My favorite piece of clothing is my denim vest. My personal style is a mix of classic preppy, with some fun patterns thrown in – J.Crew with an edge. And like any man, I love a nice plaid shirt. I’m also currently very into the enamel pin trend. They add just the right amount of flair.
What’s one thing everyone should know about you, Oliver?
O: If I was sorted into a Hogwarts house, I would definitely be a Gryffindor, despite being raised by a Slytherin and a Ravenclaw.
You strike me as a little too cool for Harry Potter . . .
O: You’re never too cool for Harry Potter.
